UPDATE: I no longer use VidAngel.
Because we don’t watch movies on a consistent basis, it has never made sense for us to pay for Netflix or any other subscription service. I refuse to pay a recurring fee for movies when it’s common for us to go a month without watching any movies.
In the past, we have exclusively used Redbox. Until now. We have found a cheaper and move convenient way to watch movies. The movies are just $1 and we don’t have to leave the house to go pick up or drop off the movie.
It’s called VidAngel. It’s easy to use, has a large selection (they even have a section titled: Not on Netflix), and you cannot beat $1 for a movie. There is no signup fee or regular expense, so it’s just $1 per movie (for $2 for HD).
VidAngel is unique because you are able to filter the movies you watch. After you pick out your movie you select exactly what you want to filter out. The list gets pretty specific so it would be especially helpful if you decide to filter a movie for your children. Because the list is so specific, it was also easy to filter out some language in a movie we watched recently. We basically just filtered out one word (x15) and it worked well.
Because VidAngel cannot actually rent out a filtered movie, you technically have to buy it from VidAngel and then sell it right back. Confused? I initially was, but that didn’t last long and now we have watched our last 5 movies with VidAngel and will continue to use the them. (The Intern and The Man From U.N.C.L.E. were the most recent watched.) It’s really a simple process. Watch the video below to learn more about how it works.
You buy the movie for $20, you watch the movie, and then you sell back the movie for $19. Your resulting fee for having the movie for 24 hours is $1. You can select for VidAngel to automatically buy it back, so you don’t have to worry about forgetting. No late fees!
What about the $19 credit? After you sell the movie back, you have a credit of $19 on your account. The next time you watch a movie with VidAngel, you just get charged $1 because you already have a credit of $19. If you decide to be done with VidAngel, you can request the credit back.
Another thing to note: You technically must add at least one filter to your movie to watch it. We just watched a movie and had no desire to filter it, so we only selected to have one filter on the credits at the end. There was no change to the movie itself.
Because we may watch a few movies one month and zero the next, VidAngel is the perfect service for us. We pay nothing when we don’t watch a movie, and only $1 when we do. Give it a try!

I think I originally heard about it from you!

I have considered using VidAngel. Unfortunately though we have Internet caps where I live so I don’t see how I could enjoy this system a lot. However, it looks like a promising way to watch movies. Now if they would get movies that are playing in the theaters, that would make it superb.

That sounds interesting for sure. I will have to try it!

It’s great to be able to filter out what you don’t want to see or hear. The filter list is pretty specific, so you can cater it to how much or how little you want taken out.
