Here are five things for this Friday…
One
For years I have been adamantly against replacing a real book with this. I had a gift card to use and for various reasons purchased a Fire HD 7
Two
I finally did some work in our garden. It was neglected last fall and it shows! This is what it looked like before I got to it. The good news is that the strawberries planted last year came up! I’m hoping for more than 5 strawberries all summer.
Three
I was excited to read Why Just Survive When You Can Thrive. It is a great resource for any mom starting her summer. One of my favorite tips Keri shares is to let go of the unrealistic expectation of the perfectly planned summer. I agree that you need to keep it simple so you can enjoy the summer months rather than focus on unmet expectations.
Keri provides simple and helpful steps to help you plan your summer. She mentions embracing the gifts God has given you and evaluating the season of life you are in. That will help you focus on your gifts and your family when making plans.
The book has a resource section at the end that lists ideas for summer fun. I was taking notes on her long list of ideas, especially the outside fun activities.

I refused to get a Kindle for years because I didn’t want to give up actual books too. I ended up buying myself the Kindle Fire HDX for my birthday last year and now I’m obsessed with it. I was surprised how much I liked reading on it and I like having easy access to games, email, and Facebook.

My mom gave me money to buy a Kindle for my 26th birthday, 2 months after I had my daughter. It’s an only one. 2nd generation I think. Only an e-reader, not a tablet. I still love reading real books but I love my Kindle too. It was handy when my daughter was a baby and still nursing. I could read one handed while she was nursing. So easy to take with me on a long weekend too. Plus, I have over 100 books and haven’t paid for any of them. ;)

It’s so nice to have a reading option when nursing! I had a smartphone with my second daughter, but not my first. It was so nice to have an option to read at night when it’s dark! I’m sure the kindle would be perfect for that.
Where do you get your books for free? I have found a few, but am looking for more resources.

I follow eReader Girl on Facebook as well as Inspired Reads. I used to follow another place on FB that was more generic but I can’t remember what it was now. My library also is part of a library network in my state and I can borrow e-books and audiobooks through a website.

I was the same as you about getting an e-reader, then my BIL gave me his old one. It does seem to simplify some things doesn’t it. And then I found website where I was able to get free books on my e-reader and that was it! Good Luck with your strawberries this year (and the rest of your garden). The free books got me too! It’s nice to be able to try out a book quick and dump it if it’s not good. I haven’t found too many free books, but haven’t looked too much just yet. What the website that you found with free books? I’m curious!

Bookbub is the best one that I subscribe to. I can’t remember the other one. Bookbub usually has a lot of Christian books for free. I loaded my reader up. I don’t have a garden yet, but I did a lot of reclamation work on the yard yesterday. Hopefully, that means I’m one step closer! I’d love to have strawberries in my yard. Yum.
