Here are five things for this Friday…
One
For years I have been adamantly against replacing a real book with this. I had a gift card to use and for various reasons purchased a Fire HD 7. I am surprised (and almost ashamed!)…I must admit that I enjoy using it.
Two
I finally did some work in our garden. It was neglected last fall and it shows! This is what it looked like before I got to it. The good news is that the strawberries planted last year came up! I’m hoping for more than 5 strawberries all summer.
Three
I was excited to read Why Just Survive When You Can Thrive. It is a great resource for any mom starting her summer. One of my favorite tips Keri shares is to let go of the unrealistic expectation of the perfectly planned summer. I agree that you need to keep it simple so you can enjoy the summer months rather than focus on unmet expectations.
Keri provides simple and helpful steps to help you plan your summer. She mentions embracing the gifts God has given you and evaluating the season of life you are in. That will help you focus on your gifts and your family when making plans.
The book has a resource section at the end that lists ideas for summer fun. I was taking notes on her long list of ideas, especially the outside fun activities.
The eBook was released Monday of this week. Read my review here or buy the book here.
Four
I was recently invited to be a part of the Tuesday Talk Link Party. I am excited to join this great community of bloggers.
If you are a blogger, this link party is a great place to share your favorite posts. This is a multi-blog link party, so your posts will be shared on multiple sites. Be sure to to come back every Tuesday at 7 AM and link up your posts!
If you are not a blogger, please feel free to look around. Take a quick glance and I’m sure you will find a few great posts to read. I have found great blogs to follow through link parties.

I am loving your garden.
Anna-Marie @BeautyandtheBeets says
I love the garden! I cannot wait until we move into our own house where I can start my own garden- never thought I would ever say that!

You will love just walking out to the garden to grab something for dinner! It’s my favorite. :)
Sam @ Away She Went says
I refused to get a Kindle for years because I didn’t want to give up actual books too. I ended up buying myself the Kindle Fire HDX for my birthday last year and now I’m obsessed with it. I was surprised how much I liked reading on it and I like having easy access to games, email, and Facebook.
admin says
Yeah…it is pretty handy.
Julie @ Logger's Wife says
My mom gave me money to buy a Kindle for my 26th birthday, 2 months after I had my daughter. It’s an only one. 2nd generation I think. Only an e-reader, not a tablet. I still love reading real books but I love my Kindle too. It was handy when my daughter was a baby and still nursing. I could read one handed while she was nursing. So easy to take with me on a long weekend too. Plus, I have over 100 books and haven’t paid for any of them. ;)
admin says
It’s so nice to have a reading option when nursing! I had a smartphone with my second daughter, but not my first. It was so nice to have an option to read at night when it’s dark! I’m sure the kindle would be perfect for that.
Where do you get your books for free? I have found a few, but am looking for more resources.
Julie @ Logger's Wife says
I follow eReader Girl on Facebook as well as Inspired Reads. I used to follow another place on FB that was more generic but I can’t remember what it was now. My library also is part of a library network in my state and I can borrow e-books and audiobooks through a website.
Julie @ Logger's Wife says
Pixel of Ink! That is the other FB page. :)
admin says
Thank you!! I will check them out.
Julia @ Lord Still Loves Me says
I cannot wait to see how your garden continues to thrive!
admin says
I hope it thrives!
Quirky Homemaker says
I was the same as you about getting an e-reader, then my BIL gave me his old one. It does seem to simplify some things doesn’t it. And then I found website where I was able to get free books on my e-reader and that was it! Good Luck with your strawberries this year (and the rest of your garden). The book sounds like a good book to read. Thanks for sharing. Stopping by from the Saturday Soiree and Blog Hop. Hope you have a wonderful weekend!
admin says
The free books got me too! It’s nice to be able to try out a book quick and dump it if it’s not good. I haven’t found too many free books, but haven’t looked too much just yet. What the website that you found with free books? I’m curious!
Quirky Homemaker says
Bookbub is the best one that I subscribe to. I can’t remember the other one. Bookbub usually has a lot of Christian books for free. I loaded my reader up. You just tell it what kind of reader you have and it will send you an email each day. Here’s the website: http://landers.bookbub.com/covers/?source=ybbrand You’ll prob. have to copy & paste it.
Lara @ MommyKazam says
I <3 your garden and wish you lots of strawberries! We just got ours started this year so we'll probably be in the 5 strawberry boat (we've had one so far, but the chickens stole it :-( ).
admin says
Oooh. Keep those chickens away.
Keri says
I was the same way with the Kindle! It was a huge leap but I have to say I like it now! I love your garden. I am trying to keep up with ours this summer snd so far it is doing well! I hope you have a wonderful day!
admin says
We finally have planted our garden, so it doesn’t look like a junk pile anymore. ;)
Meagn says
Thank you for linking up to Motivation Monday! I hope you have a great week!
Beth says
Yay for working in the garden! I have always wanted to do a strawberry patch, but have yet to do one…. I should really figure that out.
admin says
I’d hardly call it a strawberry patch. A patch sounds like it would be quite large and plentiful! Give it a shot.
misssrobin says
I don’t have a garden yet, but I did a lot of reclamation work on the yard yesterday. Hopefully, that means I’m one step closer! I’d love to have strawberries in my yard. Yum.
And thanks for your review of the Kindle Fire. I’ve been looking at getting one. It helps to know others are enjoying it.
Stopping by from SITS Sharefest. I hope you have a fabulous week.
admin says
I am incredibly excited about the possibility of strawberries in our yard! Good luck if you decide to try them out. You don’t really get any the first year, so I’m happy that we decided to put them in last year.
Terri Presser says
Thank you for sharing with us at Good Morning Mondays, I hope you get heaps of strawberries, yum, what a blessing. Have a great week.
admin says
We already have a few strawberries. They are still green, but growing!
Betsy (BPhotoArt.com) says
Your garden is looking great! Lots more green than ours :)
I’ve pinned your post, thanks for sharing at #SmallVictoriesSundayLinkup …hope to see you again this week!
admin says
It was green, but a mess! It looks much better now that I have planted our veggies.
